GPX converter: turn KML, KMZ and FIT tracks into GPX

Drop a track in any common format: the tool recognises the format, shows the track and lets you download a GPX or a KML. The conversion runs in your browser and no file is uploaded.

How to convert a track file

  1. 1. Drop the file

The format is detected from the contents, not the extension: a KMZ renamed to .zip or a GPX with no extension still works.

  2. 2. Check the track

The map, distance, elevation gain and track list let you check the file before converting it.

  3. 3. Download

GPX for watches, bike computers and sports apps; KML for Google Earth and My Maps. The file keeps its original name.

GPX, KML, KMZ, FIT, TCX: the formats compared

Five formats share hiking, cycling and running tracks. GPX is still the one nearly every device and app can read, which is why everything ends up there.

Convert a TCX file to GPX

TCX (Training Center XML) is a Garmin XML format built for training: it groups points into laps and can carry heart rate and cadence. Garmin Connect offers it in an activity’s export menu.

Drop a .tcx file into the tool above: the track (position, elevation, time) becomes GPX. Laps, heart rate and cadence are not carried over.

Frequently asked questions

Which formats does the tool read?

GPX (versions 1.0 and 1.1), KML, KMZ, FIT and TCX, up to 100 MB per file. It writes GPX 1.1 and KML 2.2.

Can I convert several files at once?

No, one file at a time. A file holding several tracks keeps them all, in the same order.

Why convert to GPX?

Because nearly every watch, bike computer and hiking or cycling app reads it. KML and FIT are mostly read by their maker’s own tools.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Reading and conversion happen in your browser; no file is uploaded or kept.
